![]() About the host and producerWhile pursuing his broadcast career in Alberta, he also spent 18 years serving with the Canadian Forces Reserves in the capacity of Public Affairs Officer. He had the opportunity to be involved in both domestic affairs (such as crisis media relations during Red River floods, and west coast Air Force and Navy consultation), as well as international activities (both based in Alberta such as the G8 summit, as well as oversees deployment in Europe and the Persian Gulf). At the time of his retirement (in 2007), Major Short was responsible for the coordination of a team of public affairs specialists across the country. Since 1999 Michael has focused his journalism expertise on the outdoors. As a keen hunter, hiker and climber, and former fly-fishing guide and instructor, Michael's personal experiences enable him to offer a unique perspective on outdoor issues. His passion for the outdoors is augmented by his genuine concern for the environment and its complex issues. An accredited member of the Canadian Outdoor Writers' Association and the Professional Outdoor Media Association, Michael is the only full-time broadcast journalist in Alberta who covers the outdoors on a regular basis. |
