About the host and producer

From the locker room of the Edmonton Oilers, to the political scene of the Alberta Legislature, Michael Short has spent more than 20 years covering stories as a broadcast journalist. Over the past six years he has focused his journalism expertise on the outdoors. As a keen hunter, hiker and climber and former fly-fishing guide and instructor, Michael's personal experiences enable him to offer a unique perspective on outdoor issues. His passion for the outdoors is augmented by his genuine concern for the environment and  its complex issues.

He is an accredited member of the Canadian Outdoor Writers' Association and the Professional Outdoor Media Association as well as a certified instructor with the Alberta Hunter Education Instructors Association.

Michael is the only full-time broadcast journalist in Alberta who covers the outdoors on a regular basis.
